From the International Director, September 2009Many communities have asked our office about possible programs, movements or ministries that we could involve the middle school youth. The challenge presented to us was how we can get youth who are younger than fifteen years old involved. The International Emmaus and Chrysalis Office is pleased to announce a partnership with a new weekend for spiritual formation called Discovery.
The International Emmaus and Chrysalis Office is pleased to announce the introduction of a new Walk to Emmaus neck cross and a new Chrysalis neck cross. Both crosses are made of Alder wood, a hardwood which grows in the Northern Hemisphere. Alter wood is straight-grained, shock and decay resistant and stains well. It is used in making guitars, artificial limbs and cabinets. There is a ring at the top of the cross so a wide or thin lanyard can be added to complete the neck cross. [Read More]We want your stories!One of the areas that the International Emmaus and Chrysalis Office is going to direct our focus in 2009 and the years to come is on our Fourth Day. What are we doing? How can we help? What are some of the resources that you are using in your Fourth Day? There are many resources out there and we would like to know what you find effective in keeping your Fourth Day strong and vibrant. Send us your success stories, we’d love to share them with the world. I find the Upper Room Daily Devotional works for me as I start my day but that is not the only resource that I use. Please share your stories with us so that we can share them with our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Letters of Agreement The 2009 Letter of Agreement will be coming out in December 2008. We are attempting to get them to the current Community Lay Directors before their term expires and are asking them to pass them on to the new Community Lay Director. No matter when you change Board of Directors members OR when you last submitted a Letter of Agreement, please complete it and return it to our offices in Nashville before March 31, 2009. We would love to get them all back so that we can see who are the leaders and Boards at the beginning of the year. Too often people and positions change and we don’t have the manpower to hunt them down. We want to provide as much information as we can in a timely manner. Also, you will see on page four that there is a spot for the Community Treasurer to enter their email address. Meal BlessingsThe International Emmaus Office is pleased to offer the following downloadable versions of the Blessing before Meals and the Blessing after Meals.  The free Adobe® Acrobat Reader is required to download and view this file. To download and install Acrobat Reader, visit Adobe online. If you already have Acrobat Reader, you can download the new blessings below. The International Emmaus Office grants permission to all Emmaus Communities to use these new songs during Emmaus Walks. Communities who download and use the songs are invited to make a donation to the Emmaus Office for the International Development fund. New Database OpportunityOur office receives many requests for help with their community’s database. We have been working with Internet Membership Systems (IMS) and together, we have a system to help Emmaus and Chrysalis communities nationally. New Chrysalis Video AvailableThe new Chrysalis Introductory DVD is now available. This DVD, along with the new combined Journey and Flight brochure, gives churches, youth groups and Christian organizations a strong starting point for discussing The Upper Room Chrysalis movement.
