The Graying of the Church A Leader's Guide for Older Adult Ministry in The United Methodist Church By Richard H. Gentzler Jr. Without a doubt, both society and United Methodist congregations are “graying.” Nearly 50% of United Methodist church members are 60 or older. Life expectancy in the U. S. has increased from 47 years in 1900 to 77 years in 2000. The number of people age 65 years or older is expected to double in the next 25 years. The Graying of the Church is based on extensive research which indicates that what leaders of older adult ministries want most is help in identifying new ministry models, ways to motivate older adults, and general resource information. All of these areas (and more!) are addressed in the book.
Primary audience: Local church leaders who plan and provide ministry with older adults; clergy; parish nurses; Christian educators; Stephen ministers; nurture, health & welfare teams/committees; evangelism teams/committees.
