The Way of Forgiveness
This resource encourages individuals in small groups to live a forgiven and forgiving life in response to God's call. Weekly themes explore living in God's blessing, releasing shame and guilt, dealing constructively with anger, receiving God's forgiveness, forgiving others, and becoming a community of reconciliation. It is highly recommended that participants complete the original 28-week Companions in Christ course before participating in The Way of Forgiveness. Group members should be well established in trusting and supportive relationships in order to benefit fully from this resource.
The Way of Forgiveness: Participant's Book
The Way of Forgiveness uses scripture meditation as well as other spiritual practices to guide groups through an eight-week exploration of the forgiven and forgiving life. Always keeping God's grace and our blessedness in mind, participants examine shame, guilt, and anger before turning to forgiveness and reconciliation. The Participant's Book includes a beautiful reproduction of Rembrandt's Return of the Prodigal Son to aid reflection.
Following a preparatory meeting, the weekly themes include:
Living in God's Blessing
Releasing Shame and Guilt
Facing our Anger
Transforming Anger
Receiving God's Forgiveness
Forgiving Others
Seeking Reconciliation
Becoming the Beloved Community
The Way of Forgiveness: Leader's Guide
The Way of Forgiveness Leader's Guide follows the same format leaders have come to rely on in the foundational 28-week guide. It includes complete content and instructions for leading each of the weekly sessions as well as information to help identify and develop the distinct leadership skills called upon when leading formational groups.
"People in my group are actively practicing new listening skills and are very receptive to asking questions like 'What is God doing here? Where is God leading me?'"
- Rev. Diane Luton Blum, First United Methodist Church, Franklin, Tennessee
"Companions has really helped me and my group visualize our place in God's kingdom. It's not just a course or module. The length of it makes it a practice or a way of life. We are praying more, listening to God's word, and listening to God speak to us. It is definetly changing our lives as we are becoming more active and obedient to God's will. I look forward to more time, study, and guidance."
- Rob Guy, Christian Chapel CME Temple of Faith, Dallas, Texas
