What Song Is God Singing?
November 10th, 2009Tuesday’s Reflection
GOD LOOKS AT US with love, kindness, and great compassion at all times. Zephaniah 3:17 tells us that God takes great delight in us, calms and quiets us with divine love, and rejoices over us with singing. I wonder what song God is singing over me right now? What song is God singing over you? Scripture says that it is a song of rejoicing and delight. I wonder what effect it would have on us if we could hear, just once, the words of God’s song for us.

Today’s Scripture Reading
[Hannah] gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, and explained, “I asked the Lord for him.”
- 1 Samuel 1:20, GNT
This Week …
- Special Need:
- This Week: Pray for public servants and veterans. Add your prayer to the Prayer Wall.
- Tips for Your Spirit:
- Praying with Eyes Open. Many of us were taught to close our eyes when we pray. Praying with icons is an ancient prayer practice that involves keeping our eyes wide open, taking into our heart what the image visually communicates. Try praying with icons.

Cathy – your comments yesterday really resonated with me. I am right there with you – and a mighty struggle it can be. In trying to shield my selfishness from those close to me – I am being less than honest – and of course it always spills out eventually, and I am ashamed. Thank goodness for gracious loved ones. I find for me – it is all about thought patterns – and where and how quickly they take me away. Philippians 4:8 – whatever is true, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy – think on these things. A command, I believe. With the Spirit’s prodding – I will do this a little better each day. My prayers are with you, Cathy.
God’s song for me today is one of restoration. “He restoreth my soul” – and I am getting a clearer picture of sanctification – the work of the Spirit – leading me, guiding me to be more like Christ. Father, thank You for indwelling me, a sinner.

While in rehab 13 months ago, I was frustrated at one point and wanted to leave. While contemplating leaving as I sat on the front steps of the facility,
the church a block down the road began ringing it’s bells. The song was Amazing Grace. As I sat there, I thought about the words to that song…”Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me”.
It was at that moment I felt God’s loving arms around me and I decided to stay and I through myself into my recovery. His grace “saved a wretch like me.” That is the song I believe the Lord is singing over me today….”and Grace will lead me Home”.

Come, ye thankful people come.
Raise the song of harvest home.
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin.

In his song “Asleep in the Light”, Keith Green lovingly chastises the institutional church for being content with form and formula: “The world is sleeping in a dark that the church just can’t fight, ’cause it’s asleep in the Light.”
At the end, though the voice of the Lord comes through, a plea to the heart of His beloved: “Come away, come away, come away with Me, my Love. Come away from this mess, come away with Me, My love. . . . ”
I’m a bit of a mess myself, but that’s the song the Lord has been singing over me. My mind can’t comprehend it . . . amazing grace, indeed!

God’s melody is simple and comes from Song of Songs 7:10–”I am my beloved’s and his desire is for me.”

I am unable to hear what God is singing at this time. I’m not sure why this is. I have taken to being very quiet, only praying the Lord’s Prayer and waiting to see if I hear something. I am hoping that soon I will begin to hear, Joyful, Joyful we adore Thee. However, for right now, things are very quiet.

Dena, the silence or pauses between the verses, the unexpected stillness in jazz are very much part of the song, I’ve found. There is/can be meaning in the quiet. Jill, thanks for your support.
God is on page 593 in the AAHH singing to me NEW NAME IN GLORY—-”I’ve got a new name, o-ver in glo-ry, and it’s mine, mine, mine”. For name, you can substitute, shout, song, jump, dance, walk, etc.

We’ll Understand It Better By and By,
By and By when the morning comes, when the saints of God are gathered home, we’ll tell the story of how we overcome, for we’ll understand it better by and by. Maybe I don’t understand today, but I know I will understand it better by and by. God’s blessings to us all.

I’m free, thank the Lord I’m free…
Got no chains binding me..
My soul is resting..
And It’s a blessing
Halliuha, thank the Lord I’m free

What song is God singing over me?
“I love you , Molly ! Look here, and here… and here…and here, as I show you.’
And my song today ?
“Jesus, I am resting , resting, In the joy of what Thou art,
I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart.”
Words by Jan Sophia Pigott. An oldie from the days of Alexander’s Missions, but so precious in good times and bad.
