May We Choose Love
November 16th, 2009Monday’s Reflection
My prayer is simple:
May we choose love, Lord.
May we choose love when faced with retaliation,
love when tempted by deception,
love when addressing poverty,
love when speaking to our neighbors,
love when lured by bad choices,
love when electing leaders.
In all the things we do, in all the words we say, and in all the places we go,
may we always choose love.
Amen.

So many choices – and I often miss that – because I am on auto-pilot. I need to make that concerted effort to acknowledge the choice – and choose love. His love…back to I Corinthians 13. Verse 5 is the biggie for me – love is not rude, love is not self-seeking, love is not easily angered, love keeps no record of wrongs…again Father – show me how far the east is from the west. Your example is perfect Father – lead me towards that. I want to choose love effortlessly – why can’t that be my auto-pilot response, instead of the response marked by selfishness. Let’s keep on this Father.

I’m choosing to love Christ first and by doing so, in turn, I will learn to love through many obstacles that I face in life. He shows me how to love the ‘unlovable’ at times.

To choose love is deliberate. Hard at times. Nice reminder for me as I begin this week. Love to us all.

When my love is overcome by the depravity of humans, the viciousness of others, remind me Lord that you are out looking for that 100th sheep, that you are out in the back field looking for the return of the prodigal. May my love for you take me with you and renew my love for all mankind. Remind me that I am no better than the worst. May your love for me fill me and spread to all I meet every day. Keep me humble, keep me honest and open. Amen

To me the key word in this prayer is “choose”. To love is a choice even when we don’t feel particularly loving. I know that my first response is very often far from loving when I am faced with difficult people or difficult situations. So I have to make the choice–and sometimes it’s hard and sometimes easier but it is still what God asks us to do. In reading all these wonderful and honest words from everyone I am hearing that you are all making the choice to love. If we make the choice then I believe that God will fill us with the love of Christ and we in turn can open our hearts and let that love overflow to the world. Love to you all.
