Singing Our Praises to God

by Editorial on February 8, 2010

Monday’s Reflection

AS PEOPLE OF FAITH have know for centuries, when we join our voices in song, our hearts and minds are also united in a profound though mysterious way. The Spirit dwelling in us sings through us and binds us together. In a world full of dissonance and disunity, a common song can be a step toward and a sign of unity God desires for us.

Today’s Question

Sing a song of praise to God. Better yet, sing that song with someone else. Share your reflections.

Today’s Scripture Reading

I, God, search the heart and examine the mind.… I treat [my people] as they really are, not as they pretend to be.

- Jeremiah 17:10, The Message

Father – thank You for this board and for the faithful who share on it. Thank You for how You display Your faithfulness in each life – in such unique ways. Father, we love You – and our debt of gratitude is so deep. I ask You again, anchor my wondering soul to You.

Lord, Thank you for the new songs we hear, including the songs of young people. The new songs are so refreshing and give hope to those who are older.

Thank you for for the ones who sing with us.

Thank you for leaders, and leaders in song.

Thank you for the people of faith who have lived before us and who give us an example.

What peculiarly odd/ God timing!

This morning I was awakened with a song in my head, one I did not know. The words were grand, they rhymed and everything. The tune was simple yet dynamic.

I sang it in my mind several times, even got out of bed and jotted down key words (in the dark, sans glasses)so I would remember it come morning.

No good. By the time I got up– only a warm memory. My jottings did no good at all.

But the song was one I need to sing often, a song of trust and not fear, of stepping into the light from darkness. Of God’s power and might in this evil, broken place.

Thanks, God!

Biggest snowfall of the century. Power restored at 3:30 a.m this morning as I cried my heart out to an EMT worker on the phone. I’d given up, no more inner resources to endure the two days, then a flicker of power before the lights, radio blasted fully. Thank you God. Feeling vulnerable–surgery last Thurs, street unplowed, need food, 6 inches expected tomorrow. I pray for strength, hope and for those not as fortunate. Grateful for this time on-line, my time to sing with you, to renew.

I have a cd that belonged to my mom…a cd that I bought for her. It’s by Alan Jackson and it’s called “Precious Memories”. It contains 15 old gospel songs like “How Great Thou Art”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “I’ll Fly Away”. But, there’s one song that touches my soul every time I listen to it…”Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”.
When I listen to this cd, it fills my heart and I feel the Holy Spirit all around me, plus it reminds me of my mom. When I’m feeling down, I listen to it and it lifts me up!

There’s something about the name Jesus
It is the sweetest name I know…
Yes it is! This song says it all. I could be busy with other things and when this songs pops into my head or I hear it on the television or radio, I find myself stopping in my tracks just to listen to those words while taking in every word sung within the song…Thank you my almighty Lord!

I thank God for music and the opportunity to sing along. One of my favorite Christian artists is Jana Alayra. You can check out her music and testimony at http://www.janaalayra.com She has both children’s and adult CD’s. Since this is my first post, I also want to thank the people who post regularly and help me “digest” the daily reflection.

My song most days is “The Old Rugged Cross”. It reminds me of where I started, how I can go on by “clinging to the old Rugged Cross” to the end–exchange it someday for a crown. May God always keep his song in our hearts and on our lips. Thanks for sharing with us, Steve. The website you gave us is a blessing to us.

Alan Jackson’s CD puts me back into my childhood. I also got that CD for my Mom who passed away 3ys ago at age 95.
Music is so important to me. Praising and telling God how much I love him. As one of my pastor’s said one time,”I imagine Heaven full of music and sing.”
Thanks to this mornings reflection, I will now have music in my head all day. Thank you Jesus!
Blessings

I have always thought it is so comforting to note that Jesus sang hymns and at the worse time of his life. Matt 26:30 and Mark 14:26

I am so grateful knowing that I can worship a God that is so Loving and unconditionally. My favorite song I have on a CD is I can only Imagine by:Mercy Me. The words remind me of how I would act to see God in front of me. Like some of the words say….I would drop to me knees and would I be able to speak at all, if He was in front of me……Amen

I live in Alan Jackson’s hometown.
