DEVO OF THE WEEK

Let Us Rejoice

This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it

Psalm 118:24 (NIV)

I am dreaming about finding a beautiful mini-dress on sale at the mall when my dream is rudely interrupted by the ringing of my alarm clock. At five o’clock on Monday morning, it’s time to get back into the school routine. As I jump out of bed, I exclaim, “It’s Monday! It’s a great day!”

Often in the past, I have had to drag myself out of bed on Monday morning. Then one day I read Psalm 118:24, and the words “Let us” struck me. “Let us” calls us to make a decision to rejoice. I can’t just sit back and expect that a reason to rejoice will come my way. I must make a conscious decision to rejoice every day -- no matter what happens -- simply because God has made this new day. Making the decision to rejoice means that instead of complaining about how short the night was, I marvel at the gift of a brand-new day. <

“And today? Today is a gift.
That’s why we call it the present.”
        —Babatunde Olatunji

Make a decision to rejoice! God has made this day, so meet it with joy and a smile.
