Explore the process of discernment with spiritual leaders Val Isenhower and Judith Todd.
Are you facing a decision? How do you know what God wants you to do? The Art of spiritual discernment involves asking these questions and then living into the answers. This workshop provides students with the opportunity to explore the process of discernment in an on-line setting. The course utilizes the content of the Circles of Discernment as a guide for learning the discernment process. The workshop is based on the book – Living into the Answers: A Workbook for Personal Spiritual Discernment by Valerie K. Isenhower & Judith A. Todd

- This course involves reading chapters in the book, doing the assigned exercises and participating in the class online discussion (all are weekdays only).
- Participants will need to purchase a copy of Living into the Answers (Upper Room, 2008)
- The course is highly participatory. Participants work through the discernment process using current situations in their daily lives.
- Cost: $100 (plus the cost of the book).
Judith is s co-author of two books on spiritual discernment with Valerie Isenhower. Judith is one of the founders of Water in the Desert Ministries and a gifted teacher with years of experience in adult education and spirituality. She has facilitated discernment processes for churches and judicatory groups. She taught Old and New Testament at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Biblical Languages at the Graduate Theological Union and Creation Spirituality with Matthew Fox at Holy Names College. Judith now teaches courses at the Ecumenical Institute for Ministry in Albuquerque, in the Commissioned Lay Pastor Program for the Presbytery of Santa Fe and is adjunct faculty in the Religious Studies Department at the University of New Mexico. Judith has a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the Graduate Theological Union, and a M.Div from McCormick Seminary. She lives in Albuquerque and is an ordained Presbyterian minister.
Valerie K. Isenhower
Valerie K. Isenhower, executive director of Water in the Desert Ministries in Albuquerque, is also owner of V. Isenhower Photography. She received her undergraduate education at University of Montana and University of Northern Colorado. Isenhower earned an MDiv from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City and pursued additional graduate work at Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. She is the former coordinator of ministry for Worshipful-Work, an ecumenical ministry in spiritual discernment. An American Baptist minister, Isenhower leads spiritual formation events and training in the corporate discernment process. As a photographer, she specializes in meditative and discernment photographs. She also takes photos of hot-air balloons. Her photographs have been published and displayed in galleries.
