The Upper Room® was originally created to help families in the midst of hard times. Faith learned and lived out in a family context has always been important, but never more so than it is today. Our children will not learn about the Christian faith through some form of osmosis. We have the privilege of helping them identify and interpret their experiences of God. Yet many parents and grandparents feel ill-equipped for this calling.
To strengthen the faith of parents and to assist parents and congregations in nurturing the spiritual growth of the next generation, Upper Room Ministries® offers a number of resources and programs. We publish resources for children, youth, and young adults including Pockets (a devotional magazine for children ages six to 12), Devo'Zine (a devotional magazine for youth ages 12 to 18, written by both teenagers and adults), and numerous resources for parents who seek to foster faith in their families.
Upper Room Ministries also offers a three-day experience for youth (ages 15 to 18) and young adults (ages 19 to 24). The program, which is called Chrysalis, is modeled after The Walk to Emmaus. Participants spend three days singing, worshiping, praying, and learning about the Christian life. After the Chrysalis event, youth and young adults continue their journey in small groups. Chrysalis is an enormously powerful encounter with Christ for high-school and college-age young people. The program currently reaches 30,000 young people each year.
Our newest resource to reach young people is MethodX, a unique web site dedicated to young adults who are searching for meaning and spiritual grounding for their lives. The goals of this web site are to provide Christian hospitality on the internet for thousands of young adults; to offer a way for churches to support young people as they move into college or work; to create a place for community and connection; and, as with all of our endeavors, to help young people grow in their relationship with God.
The church has always faced financial challenges in reaching out to children, youth, young adults, and families. Because of the cost of providing quality resources, fewer and fewer denominations publish materials specifically for children and families. Upper Room Ministries is committed to helping families discover God together and to providing crucial support for young adults during times when they feel most vulnerable.
Upper Room Ministries is seeking essential financial support for a variety of resources to nurture the spiritual development of young people and families.
