God Is Still Speaking: A Student Receives Her Call
During a weekend gathering for college students in Nashville, TN, in 1980, public relations major Vicki Walker entered The Upper Room Chapel and fixed her eyes on the carving of the Last Supper above the altar.
After a time of prayer, “I gazed upon Jesus, and I felt peaceful,” she says. “Then, I heard a voice saying, ‘I want you to go to seminary.’”
Upon hearing the story, a friend encouraged her, “Now you can do public relations work for God.”
A few years later, Vicki graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary. She now serves as the minister of mission and outreach at Hyde Park UMC in Tampa, FL.
Vicki recalls, “When I finally stilled myself and waited before God, I could hear. I am grateful that The Upper Room has been—and continues to be—a place for people to develop their spiritual disciplines and listen for the voice of God. God is still speaking.”
