The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” - 1 Samuel 3:10-11 (NIV)

Traveling through a thick fog, I was listening to a devotional program based on the calling of Samuel. The speaker gave an invitation simply to pray Samuel’s prayer, “Speak [Lord], for your servant is listening.” Then we were to be silent and listen.

O God, be forever the light before us and the voice that calls us. Help us to listen and respond. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
