I knew a girl who was an alcoholic who turned to kava kava instead. It helped her overcome her alcoholism. Kava kava is a natural herb from the South Pacific that can calm people down. People use it as a replacement for alcohol. It doesn't cause impairment. This might be a better option for your husband. Also, I'm not saying this is a replacement for medical help, but a naturopath or herbalist might be able to help your husband. Also, Bach flowers might help him with some of the emotional issues that caused him to drink in the first place.
