OCTOBER 25 Encouraging Word # 299 “We wait in hope for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.” Psalm 33:20-21 Dear Friends, One of the more frequent words used in the Bible is the word “rejoice” or “be glad” (over 250 times). However, you and I know that is not something which is easy. It is difficult to rejoice when there are so many situations and circumstances that are not going well in our lives. However, Psalm 33:20-21 gives us the key to all of this. “We wait in hope for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.” David understood that the reason he could rejoice was not because of his circumstances but because of who God is. Chances are that right now there are several things in your life that are not going as well as you would like them. There might even be some things that seem disastrous to you. However, notice in this passage that the “rejoicing” is not in how well things are going for him but his rejoicing is in God. We can rejoice because • Although things are not going well in our lives, things are well with God and He is in control. • Our hope is in God, not in the changing of our circumstances. • We are never without hope because we are never without God. • God is greater than any problem you or I could ever face. • God’s timetable and plan for my life is far superior than my plan and my timetable. How much of your focus today is on hoping your circumstances will change versus resting in the greatness and love of God?
