God, I am open and present. Guide my feet into your way of peace. Amen.
I will walk gently in the way of Christ's peace.
Today's reading in The Uncluttered Heart was about being fully present in the moment and present in our bodies. Walking on the beach brings me to the present moment. I took this photo as I walked on the beach in South Carolina at sunrise. When I see the picture, I remember the smell of the ocean; the sounds of the wind, the waves, and the birds; the feeling of the early morning coolness and the wind on my face.
What are the greatest challenges you face in attempting to walk in Christ's peace?
Today's quote in my book comes from the first of Daniel Wolpert's two books on developing one's relationship with God. The subtitle says it all: "The Call of Ancient Prayer Practices." Wolpert takes 12 prayer practices and makes them accessible to a regular person like me. The Appendix to the book presents step-by-step instructions for one of the prayer practices featured in each chapter. I'd recommend this book for the shelf closest to the place where you have your quiet time.
I could not have found The Upper Room Moments of Prayer (on Facebook Live) sooner. For it is during these moments of centering spiritual practices, meditating on the words of scripture, praying with and for the world, that I find moments of transcendence, hear whispers of peace and hope, see glimpses of truth and justice, behold visions of love and beauty amid all the stark realities that are around me.”
