The Upper Room® is a global ministry dedicated to supporting the spiritual life of Christians seeking to know and experience God more fully. From its beginnings in 1935 as a daily devotional guide, The Upper Room has grown to include publications, programs, prayer support, and other resources to help believers of all ages and denominations move to a deeper level of faith and service.
The Upper Room exists to:
Our Vision: To foster an international community of people and congregations who are seeking God, building a vision of new life in Christ, nurturing one another by sharing experiences of God’s love and guidance, and encouraging one another in Christian action to transform the world.
The Upper Room is committed to exploring and communicating a biblically and theologically-informed vision of the spiritual life that encourages and supports disciples of Jesus Christ. As part of Discipleship Ministries of the United Methodist Church, more information about The Upper Room’s mission and responsibilities can be found in the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church.
The Upper Room is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, incorporated in the state of Tennessee. Since day one, our mission has been international and interdenominational in scope, with a focus on helping people experience God through prayer, study, and faithful action. This vital ministry is sustained by product sales and participants’ fees, along with generous financial contributions from donors. The Upper Room receives no apportionment funds from the United Methodist Church, and is a part of Discipleship Ministries of the United Methodist Church.
The Upper Room International Ministries could not happen without dedicated partners in mission. Churches, Sunday school classes, and individuals donate money regularly, helping our ministries grow as we provide ways for people to connect with God in prayer—no matter where they live.
We invite you to join The Upper Room’s global community in celebration of these ministries. Help us continue to provide resources for the world to pray and grow together, stretching the kingdom of God around the world.
For over 80 years, The Upper Room daily devotional guide has encouraged people everywhere to share their stories of faith. Not long after its first issue was printed The Upper Room began crossing borders and being translated into Spanish, Korean, and Hindustani. Now, The Upper Room is translated into more than 30 languages and can be found in over 100 countries.
Stacey Robinson’s daily routine involves walking her guide dog Kirk and reading The Upper Room daily devotional on her Braille Display tablet. To join our worldwide community of prayer, Stacey receives a digital file of the daily devotional that is then read by a special braille translation device.
