The Upper Room® is a global ministry dedicated to supporting the spiritual life of Christians seeking to know and experience God more fully. From its beginnings in 1935 as a daily devotional guide, The Upper Room has grown to include publications, programs, prayer support, and other resources to help believers of all ages and denominations move to a deeper level of faith and service.
The Upper Room exists to:
Our Vision:
To foster an international community of people and congregations who are seeking God, building a vision of new life in Christ, nurturing one another by sharing experiences of God’s love and guidance, and encouraging one another in Christian action to transform the world.
Our Core Scriptural Values:
In our ministry and life together, we follow these values:
The Upper Room is committed to exploring and communicating a biblically and theologically-informed vision of the spiritual life that encourages and supports disciples of Jesus Christ. As part of Discipleship Ministries of the United Methodist Church, more information about The Upper Room’s mission and responsibilities can be found in the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church.
The Upper Room is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, incorporated in the state of Tennessee. Since day one, our mission has been international and interdenominational in scope, with a focus on helping people experience God through prayer, study, and faithful action. This vital ministry is sustained by product sales and participants’ fees, along with generous financial contributions from donors. The Upper Room receives no apportionment funds from the United Methodist Church or any other denomination.
The Upper Room International Ministries could not happen without dedicated partners in mission. Churches, Sunday school classes, and individuals donate money regularly, helping our ministries grow as we provide ways for people to connect with God in prayer—no matter where they live.
We invite you to join The Upper Room’s global community in celebration of these ministries. Help us continue to provide resources for the world to pray and grow together, stretching the kingdom of God around the world.
