Overpriced Eggs

April 30, 2020 by Velinda Scott (West Virginia, USA)

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

— John 16:33 (NIV)

My breakfast-loving husband came home with a carton of overpriced eggs from the gas station. It was actually a joy I had not expected because there is no longer bread or eggs in my refrigerator. In the wake of this virus spreading through the country, we're helpless and feeling alone. These are definitely different times. But Jesus says he has overcome the world, which means everything in it — including sickness. We have a peace through Christ that we will get through this and rise above and somehow back to normal.

Matthew 6:34 tells us, "Don't worry about tomorrow," and I've been trying to apply that to everyday life. Jesus has got this, we are not alone in this world. Matthew 6:25 says, "Don't worry about your life..what you will eat ..." God provides for the birds of the air, and we are so much more important than them. So I will sit quietly back, try to bake my own bread, and wait, knowing that our Lord Jesus Christ has overcome our fear and worry.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank you that in this time, we are able to draw closer to you. With our way of life disrupted, please give us peace and wisdom. Amen.
