Together in Christ

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

— Romans 12:12

The COVID-19 pandemic has also affected my country, Indonesia. The government issued policies according to World Health Organization recommendations, one of which is social physical distancing. Activities involving many people have been suspended, including religious ceremonies. People work from home and students study at home.

As I write this, media reports that the number of suspected coronavirus patients is increasing every day and some patients have died. Anxiety fills the air and people have started to send words of hope and prayers through communication apps. Churches are empty, but people share links for live-streamed Sunday services and post videos of Sunday worship guides. In the midst of this situation, Hana, one of my friends has been hospitalized. We are very sad that we cannot visit her because hospitals are a high-risk place to go. So, my friends and I agreed to pray for Hana at 9 PM, each from our own home. Suddenly I realized that although Christians can't meet together physically, our ties in Christ are felt more closely in this time of crisis.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your protection in times of crisis. Help us to feel connected to one another and to you. Amen.
