For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. — Isaiah 55:8-9 (NRSV)
My son, Anunay James, is now doing his PhD in cancer immunotherapy at Washington State University. It is a long way from home. He moved from the warmth of South Carolina to snowy cold winters in Washington State. However, in the quietness of the small county he lives in, my son is growing spiritually strong with the Lord as his only source of help.
My daughter, Elizabeth Rushali, got accepted into the Medical University of South Carolina for their PharmD program. In her words, “If the Lord has provided for my brother, he will do the same for me.” Yes, we wait in faith and hope in Jesus our Lord, the God who says, “Blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me” (Matthew 11:6). As Isaiah 49:23 reminds us, “Those who wait for [the LORD] shall not be put to shame.”
I join many of those who will pray for you as you seek to discern what you are called to be at this moment. May God grant you the courage to fulfill that calling. May we all open our eyes and see the misery, open our ears and hear the cries of God’s people, and, like God through the Lord Jesus Christ, be incarnate amongst them.”
