Sadly, neither before or after this wonderful example of the body of Christ working together, have I or others I know, experienced such care. I know that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, it just hasn’t emanated from other churches I have been associated with. But wouldn’t it be wonderful if that kind of care and cooperation was the norm rather than the exception? Wouldn’t that truly demonstrate our role as “ambassadors” of Christ (see 2 Cor. 5:20)? Perhaps this level of care is something we can all strive for in our congregations. In doing so, we can demonstrate to those around us how wonderful it is when all the members of the church come together as one body in the service of others (see 1 Cor. 12:12).
