The core committee

The Christmas gathering!

In 1999, three of my friends came and said, “Let’s start an ecumenical Christian women’s fellowship.” Over the next few weeks we contacted women’s fellowship groups at many churches of all different denominations in our city to invite them to fellowship with us. It was amazing to see the response from the churches.

We formed a core committee to plan for future programs. Since Christmas was coming up, we thought it best to begin our fellowship at that time. Sixty women from different churches participated, and we had a great celebration of worship, singing, and fellowship. We gave them each a “love box” of snacks and a gift. And we reminded ourselves that Christmas is the season to share God’s love and remember the gift of God’s only son to this world.

Then we began our programs with workshops on health and social issues for women, young people, and families. Since we had no outside resources for these programs, we all contributed toward the expenses. We were able to help women in distress, children in crisis, women in prison, and to rehabilitate young girls who had dropped out of school.

We carried on these programs until 2019. We had a great gathering of 200 women for Christmas that year. Then we had to stop our gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that COVID-19 restrictions are largely lifted, we plan to meet in October to revive our fellowship.

During 2020-2021 we lost many of our families and friends. It was a sad time. But God has given us the privilege to share God’s love with the people around us. Remember us in your prayers.
