More From Lori Hatcher

January 10, 2023 by Lori Hatcher (South Carolina, USA)

Since I wrote the devotion for today, I’ve continued to learn from my blind friends. Their insight into spiritual matters spurs me on to greater understanding. One Sunday during Advent, Thom sang a contemporary Christmas song that asked Mary, the mother of Jesus, if she knew all that her Son would one day do. As Thom sang that the deaf will hear, the blind will see, and the dead will live again, I wondered what those truths might meant to him, a man who lost his sight as an adult, or to his wife, Tracy, who was born blind. One day, Thom and Tracy will see the face of Jesus, and that will be first sight Tracy ever sees. They both will get to enjoy the vibrant hues of a sunset and the sparkle of light on ocean waves.

When those of us who have trusted Christ as our Savior enter heaven, we will receive resurrected bodies—what a glorious day that will be for us all! Imagine it: You open your eyes for the first time in heaven, and a light so intense you have to squint emanates from something in front of you. As you peer through tiny slits, you realize you’re not gazing at the sun—you’re gazing at the Son himself. Radiant in all his glory, he will open his arms wide and call your name. As you move toward Jesus, perhaps he will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant. By relying on me, you allowed my work of salvation and transformation to be displayed for all to see.”

I don’t know when I’ll go to heaven, but I’d love to be there when my friends see Jesus for the first time.

Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!
