More From Kathleen Brewer

April 6, 2023 by Kathleen Brewer (New Brunswick, Canada)

Hello Friends,

Here we are together again. I enjoyed meeting each of you the last time and reading your comments and kind thoughts for my sister, who was laid up at the time. At the same time, I felt blessed to be able to pray with you. I look forward to having an opportunity to meet with you again.

I am glad spring is almost here—spring cleaning, not so much. I don’t know about you, but cleaning cupboards and closets isn’t my favorite thing to do. I’d rather bake for a month than clean. So, who determined spring cleaning a thing?  When I was a child, my mom wallpapered, cleaned, painted, washed windows, washed walls, waxed floors; you name it, we did it. It started in March, and seemed like we ended in May sometime. She always talked about that fresh spring smell. I am not sure if it was spring air or wallpaper fumes! No, seriously, Mom always kept a beautiful, clean house.

It is hard to believe that we are most of the way through Lent when writing this. Yet, lent has become a cherished time in my life. As a follower of Christ, I think it is essential for me to spend time praying to the Lord, drawing closer to God, as I prepare to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This year my denomination has offered a Lenten Journey. It has been eight weeks of a spiritual growth journey of growing closer to the Lord.  James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you(NIV). It has been humbling, and a great blessing as the Lord has shown me areas where I could learn to love God and pray more by God’s will.

Somehow through life’s trials and successes, I began to think that God loved me depending on my successes or failures and how much I could do for God. But God very clearly showed me that I was wrong.  God loves you and me more than we can ever imagine. To properly love others as God commands in the scripture of today’s meditation, we must appreciate and feel the full extent of God’s love. And as we read and reflect on Psalm 139:1-18, God reminds us how much we are loved.

May God bless you this week as we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ!
