We Are All the Same

When I was growing up, every morning at breakfast my mother would read the daily devotional from The Upper Room. Sixty years later, I still include The Upper Room devotional in my morning scripture and meditation time. I often try to hide the author’s name and where they live until I finish the devotional. In most of the readings, the author sounds like they could live next door or attend the same church that I do. Occasionally the writer will name a place or local custom which indicates they are from somewhere else in the world.

With the internet and a smart phone, I often look up the place where the writer lives. I am intrigued to learn about the state or country that each writer calls home. Some writers live in countries where Christians are a minority. The apostle Paul made it clear that even though we come from many different walks of life, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. It is evident from the daily devotions in The Upper Room that we all have the same trials and tribulations and also give thanks for the same blessings and grace that God generously provides.
