As I read my Upper Room devotional each morning, I take notes of points and principles that speak to me. When my journals are full, I plan to gift them to my children and grandchildren. My hope is that they will be impacted through the words I have written. I always add the author’s name in my notes to acknowledge their writing and perspective. These authors are diverse in their backgrounds but share a common faith in God. God spoke to the author of each devotion, which in turn spoke to me.
As I journal, I am speaking to my family. The passing down of both faith and the importance of a personal relationship with God can become more and more difficult in a world filled with so many distractions. Setting apart time daily to spend with God in scripture and record how God speaks to me through the written word and through others is an encouragement each and every day. It is a habit I hope to instill in those closest to me.
