What Does God Sound Like?
An Excerpt from Speak, My Soul If we are to hear our own soul speak, we Read More
That’s a picture of my mother on the left. Her yellow button says “I Have Low Vision.” And see the words Yes I Can on the front of that shirt? Mother and I heard those words at a low vision conference. When she thought she couldn’t do something, she repeated the words to herself, and very often she would find a way to do whatever she was having trouble with. They became the name of the pamphlet I mentioned in the devotion, and later the blog on my website.
Yes, I’m still blogging and I’m still learning ways the devil works. He really does prowl around. When we have unhealthy impulses, we need to remember the source. Fear, anger, depression, worry, and many other things don’t come from our Savior. Satan is often at work to push us to react in ways that aren’t in our best interest. But those pushes can often be extinguished when we remember scripture.
Here’s an example that I deal with a lot: worry. Worry doesn’t come from God. We read in Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (NIV). Prayer really does work to produce peace instead of worry.
Readers, can you think of other times when Satan is at work? Let us pray for discernment to recognize when this happens—and the verses to help us.
Jesus, give us courage to speak and act as you have taught us.
Blessings to you all.
