More From Cindy Lee

December 31, 2023 by Cindy Lee (England, United Kingdom)

Thank you so much for your valuable comments regarding my previous meditation, “Uphill with God”.

“Old News” is my third devotional and was inspired by the pain we sometimes experience when we have to let go of the past and clutter in our lives. Although clearing out my parents’ house was a few years ago, I can still remember the emotions it evoked and how seeing the old essays and assignments transported me back to the time when they were written.

The assignments were symbolic of the sheer willpower and determination required to make it through to the end of the course. Shredding all the effort it had taken wasn’t easy. It was like losing a piece of myself as I eradicated part of my past. However, I have since learned that the striving for difficult things is a blessing, because only then can we truly appreciate the hard work it takes to achieve a goal.

Maybe, like me, you fall prey to dwelling on the past and overthinking. I have since realized that we were never meant to remain static but rather to continually evolve and transform. Holding on to our sufferings, fears, and disappointments in life can be toxic. How wonderful that God can take our challenging moments and transform them into something positive, giving us valuable skills along the way.

I am grateful that God can use our life experiences to reach out to other readers and that the published words within The Upper Room community can change lives throughout the world. Devotions can guide us, and as someone who needed several written attempts before having one published, I urge you not to give up if you, too, have something you wish to share with readers.

I hope that your 2024 is filled with joy and many blessings. Happy New Year!
