Unquenchable Faith

April 4, 2024 by Dave Shiple (South Carolina)

The Upper Room has been one of God’s blessings in my spiritual life for over 30 years. When I read the stories of people from around the world, I stand in awe of the faith of the writers — the woman in Missouri who had a terminal illness but said when troubles are overwhelming, God will ease her burden; the mother in a war zone in El Salvador who told her daughter not to be afraid and to trust the Lord; the young man in Illinois who focused on others in the hospital during the last days of his life; the man in India in chronic pain since 2004 who said God’s grace was sufficient for him; the mother in Maryland who, when her son was sentenced to life in prison, received words of kindness from the father of her son’s victim; the hurricane victim in Puerto Rico who, by reading God’s word in her copy of The Upper Room, knew she could move forward because God’s sure refuge was stronger than any storm; the woman from Australia in chronic pain for 30 years who nevertheless said she always has hope in Jesus; and the man in North Carolina in a horrific car crash that left him with only a ten percent chance of survival but who refused to let his circumstances define his relationship with God.

These are testimonies of unquenchable faith in God despite death, illness, war, despair, and unrelenting pain. No matter what we are going through, we can follow their Christlike example and know for certain that with God, all things are possible (Mk. 10:27).
