I find aging a tricky thing. I am now considered a senior citizen in my golden years. However, my mind tells me the opposite. This quandary was often upsetting to me until I discovered what I relayed in my devotion, “God in the Unknown.” It is not so much the aging process that has me frustrated, but fear of what lies ahead. Once God helped me see this, I was ready to search God’s word for comfort. And comfort I found! God’s promises in scripture have the power to uphold us through the most difficult seasons of life and, as I discovered, even through the unknown.
Scriptures like Isaiah 46:4 and Psalm 73:26 remind me what is most important: God is with me through it all, even the final years of my earthly life. God’s perfect love truly does cast out all fear (see 1 Jn. 4:18). Doesn’t God want us to trust in all things? Learning to trust through the unknown has strengthened my faith and drawn me into a deeper relationship with God.
What lies ahead is far less important than how I live my life today. So each morning, I resolve to give all my worries and burdens to God and go about the business of doing that in which he has called me to do. And I’m so thankful my Father walks with me through it all.
