Returning to God

September 6, 2024 by Jaime Ginn (Alabama, USA)

I was raised in church from a young age and accepted Christ as a teenager. As an adult, my relationship with him has had its ups and downs.

In 2022, as I was reading The Upper Room, I was touched by a devotional which was centered around Psalm 143:8. It was a time in my life where I was trying to find my way back to God. Basically, I had prayed about a certain situation for years, but nothing ever changed. My faith was shattered. I took matters into my own hands thinking I could do better, but I made a complete mess of everything instead. Not only was I angry with God now, I was also angry with myself. I was miserable. Psalm 143:8 led me to Jeremiah 29:13, which led me to another verse and then another one. I realized God had never left me.

When things don’t work out the way we want, it does not mean God has forgotten us. God is working on our behalf, even when we don’t realize it. Nothing can separate us from God’s love. Nothing! (See Rom. 8:35-39.) If we keep searching, we will find God and with God, we will find all we ever need.
