Being a Witness for Christ

February 14, 2025 by Everett Birdsong (Virginia, USA)

Last December my wife and I were participating in an Advent Bible study at our church. At one of the sessions, our leader gave everyone a copy of The Upper Room and told us to give it to a stranger and tell them, “This book has helped me before in my life, perhaps it can help you.”

Early one morning and after weeks of driving around with this copy of The Upper Room in my truck, I drove by a bench on my way to work, and a man was sitting there. It was a very cold day. I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to give my Upper Room to a stranger. But being reluctant to stop, I drove right by him. God started speaking to me and told me to go back. I circled back around the block, stopped at the bench, and motioned for the man to come over to my truck. He came over, and I handed him The Upper Room and told him, “This book has helped me many times, and I would like you to have a copy.” I also told him that I had placed a $20 bill within the book on a certain page. He thanked me.

As I drove away, I saw him sit down and start reading The Upper Room I had given him. My heart melted, and I was filled with joy. I was proud to have witnessed God’s love in this small way.
