October 7: God Answers Prayers

1. What is your first response in times of trouble? Do you try to fix things yourself? Do you find it easy or difficult to share what you’re going through with God?
2. Has there been a time when you’ve prayed to God and it seemed like there was no answer? What did you feel as you waited? How do you stay connected to God as you wait?
3. Can you recall a time when God answered your prayer in a creative or surprising way? What happened? What did that experience teach you about God?
4. What spiritual practices or habits help you to “watch in hope” for God? How do you pay attention to the ways God is working in your life?
5. How can we encourage one another in seasons of waiting? How can we stay open to God’s creative answers, especially when they differ from what we expect?

October 14: Help My Unbelief

1. Have you ever struggled to trust that God is in control during a difficult situation? If so, what made it a challenge to trust in that moment? What happened?
2. What bolsters your belief in God’s care for you when you are feeling overwhelmed? What can we do to build trust in God while also taking action to resolve the problems we face?
3. Do you find the response of the boy’s father (“I believe; help my unbelief!”) relatable? Why or why not? Is it possible to have both faith and doubt?
4. Recall a time when a Bible verse, story, or sermon changed your perspective on a situation. How did your perspective change? How did it affect your faith?
5. How can we support others who may be struggling to trust God because of difficult circumstances?

October 21: The Road to Fulfillment

1. Have you ever felt regret or doubt after saying yes to something God was calling you to do? What prompted those feelings? Did those feelings change over time?
2. How do you sense God’s calling in your life? What does it feel like to be called by God? How do you discern God’s call to stay the course versus follow God in a new direction?
3. What helps you to persevere when the path God has called you to becomes difficult or painful? How has God made a way for you when it seemed there was none?
4. How does the Israelites’ struggle resonate with your own experiences? What can we learn from their feelings of frustration as well as from their example of perseverance?
5. Who in your life has modeled perseverance in their calling? How can we support each other in staying faithful to God’s call, especially when it’s not what we expected?

October 28: The Wooden Cross

1. Recall a time when you had to trust God without knowing the outcome. What helped you hold on to faith? How do you balance honesty about your fears while still trusting God?
2. What reassures you of God’s presence, especially in times of waiting? Are there physical objects that bring you comfort and remind you of God’s care? If so, what are they?
3. What truths about God’s character help you feel secure when facing health concerns or other fears? What Bible verse, song, or story reminds you of God’s nearness?
4. What are some practical ways we can remind ourselves of God’s promises during challenging times? What spiritual practices might we adopt to help us when we feel afraid?
5. What help or encouragement from others has strengthened your faith in moments of uncertainty? What small actions can we take to reassure others of God’s grace?
