The Beautiful Dissonance of the Bible
“You have heard it said. . . . But I say. . . .” So Jesus Read More
The theme of today’s meditation is something that I find very meaningful — being content in the present, regardless of our circumstances, and looking for and being thankful for the blessings God has bestowed upon us. I have had another meditation published recently in The Upper Room that deals with a similar theme, and both meditations referred to Phil. 4:10-13. In this passage, Paul wrote about his “secret” to contentment, which is of course Jesus Christ who strengthens him.
Have any of you ever kept a “gratitude journal” in which you write down all of the blessings you have in your life? Even in times of great trials, when we open ourselves up to the positives (blessings) in our lives, it is amazing what we can come up with. The meditation’s “Thought for the Day” is, What gifts from God can I more fully appreciate today? Thinking in this way helps us to positively frame our circumstances, which can have a huge impact on our perspective and resulting attitude. And then, of course, we go to the Lord in thanksgiving.
