Make Your Calling Sure

March 17, 2019 by Deepika Emmanuel Sagar (Rajasthan, India)

Therefore, my bothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. — (2 Peter 1:10-11, NIV)

How blessed we are to have an assurance that we will receive a rich welcome in Gods eternal kingdom! We all know, by the virtue of God’s word, that we live as ambassadors of Christ. (See 2 Corinthians 5:20.) Ambassadors have the highest diplomatic rank; they represent their state, government, or organization. God has given us this ‘highest rank,’ and with it comes big responsibility. God has made us ambassadors of the ministry of reconciliation. (See 2 Corinthians 5:18-20.)

We might wonder, How can people like us, who are full of sin, be ambassadors of Christ? There is power in the name of Christ. When we know and call upon him we are blessed with a ‘divine power’ that gives us all we need for life and for godliness. (See 2 Peter 1:3.) Our works of the past are not as important as our conscience when we approach God, because God judges us through our intentions. This knowledge of God develops faith which is then nurtured by our efforts to know God more. When we know God more, we are able to ‘participate in the divine nature’ to yield for Gods purpose. (See 2 Peter 1:4.) It’s not about our righteousness but Gods righteousness in us. Having a personal relationship with God is so easy. God is eager to give that personal touch in our lives. God smiles at us, encourages us, and connects to our hardships just like a good friend. God has the power to use everything for good.

When we submit ourselves to be stewards of Christ, it is his anointing that teaches us. (See 1John 2:27.) Order, instruction, advice, and wisdom come from God as we work for Gods kingdom. We receive power through the Holy Spirit to be Gods witnesses, and it is amazing to see the Spirit working through us. I encourage you to allow God to use you to glorify Gods name; share the gift of God that is in you, for God has not given you a spirit of fearfulness but one of power, love, and self-discipline. (See 2 Timothy 1:6-7.)
