More From Andre de Albuquerque Caetano

April 11, 2019 by Andre de Albuquerque Caetano (Minas Gerais, Brazil)

Yesterday at church, the pastor said: “tempus fugit,” which is Latin for time flies. Since that Christmas I mentioned in today’s meditation, when my uncle José Caetano gave me an old Bible, time has gone by so quickly. I am now married and have two kids and some nephews and nieces. But as says the Lord: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35, NIV).

We are very glad that my meditation was selected to be published by The Upper Room. Since English is not my native language, it was not easy to write it in English, but Nedra Dugan helped me. I started studying English by myself at the city public library, and improving my English has been part of my life. But Nedra and her husband, Patrick, have been missionaries in Brazil since the 70s. They came to Brazil before I was born, so I can say they speak and write better than I in both Portuguese and English.

Our local church is 109 years old and American pastors were among their first leaders. Thanks be to God for the many missionaries that came to Brazil to spread the good news of the Gospel. Someone say that English is a missionary language. I have found this to be true when I visit the Upper Room website and read words from Christians like me from all around the world — it’s amazing.

Almost every morning my wife and I sit at the breakfast table, drink that special Brazilian coffee, and read The Upper Room devotional, which in Portuguese we call No Cenáculo. By the way, this precious ‘little book’ has been published in Brazil since 1939, and 2019 is its 80th anniversary. To God be the glory!

I would like to be in contact with you all, and it would be my pleasure to talk to you.

Greetings from Brazil. God bless you all.
