The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. - 1 Kings 17:6 (NIV)

I find Elijah to be one of the most interesting figures in the Bible. He suffered loneliness, persecution, humiliation, and hunger in grim desert places. But God never abandoned him. God heard Elijah’s pleas, saw his tears, and sent ravens and angels to provide for his needs.

Today's Prayer
Merciful God, raise our awareness of those who do not have daily bread. Multiply our efforts to help as much as we can, wherever we can, whenever we can, as we pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Matt. 6:9-13, NIV). Amen.
