Isaiah 43:1-7

Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me.” - John 10:14 (NRSVUE)

“The position is yours, but you must accept it within two hours.” This was the message I received upon my return home, and it threw me into an awful conflict. I wanted to accept this new, more challenging position, but making a life-changing decision for myself and my family so quickly frightened me. I would have to leave a job I loved. We would need to sell our home, leave our church family and friends, and move 350 miles away. What if things didn’t work out?

I paced through our home, crying out to God, “What should I do?” The more I prayed, the more desperate and fearful I became. Then I clearly heard, “Are you not my own? Do I not care for my own?” Instantly my fear was gone; I belonged to Jesus, and he would be with us and care for us. I accepted the position.

After we moved, we found a wonderful church family and made many great friends. What a treasure it has been to have the assurance — no matter what problem I face — that I am God’s own, and God cares for me! There is no need for fear or anxiety, Jesus is our Good Shepherd and will care for us.
