THE ACADEMY FOR SPIRITUAL FORMATION WILL OFFER MATCHING GRANT FUNDS UP TO $5,000 to UNITED METHODIST ANNUAL CONFERENCES FOR PARTICIPANTS IN BILINGUAL (SPANISH + ENGLISH) TWO-YEAR ACADEMY #42
Nashville, TN—The Academy for Spiritual Formation announces it will offer matching grant funds up to $5,000 to United Methodist Annual Conferences to help individuals from each conference participate in the next Bilingual (Spanish + English) Two-Year Academy in 2020. This is the first Bilingual Academy since 2011 and is part of The Academy’s vision to form ecumenical Christian communities that embrace the multicultural, multiethnic, interfaith landscape of the 21st century.
The Academy offers the Encouraging Spiritual Leaders (ESL) matching grant program as a way to partner with United Methodist Conferences to make The Academy more accessible to those who are giving of themselves in faith communities and need time for spiritual formation the most.
“We’re excited we can offer this matching grant program for the bilingual Academy community to form next year,” said Rev. Stephen Bryant, publisher of The Upper Room. “We look forward to welcoming United Methodist lay and clergy persons into the necessary and vital spiritual formation work of The Academy, trusting we have much to learn from those who join us.”
To participate in the matching grant program, each conference can identify up to five persons (clergy or lay) to participate in The Academy and invite them to apply to the Two-Year program here. Each conference can select individuals using whatever process works best for the conference. When extending invitations to apply, conferences need to keep in mind those who demonstrate spiritual leadership and a hunger for deep spiritual formation. The application process for Academy #42 is now open. Bilingual language skills are not required for participation.
Previous Two-Year participants describe The Academy as life-changing, restorative, and spiritually grounding, a necessary offering in an age of deep division and political posturing.
Academy #42 begins August 10, 2020 at Oblate Renewal Center in San Antonio, TX. The Academy creates transformative space for people to connect with God, self, others, and creation for the sake of the world. Learn more about The Academy here.
