Praying the Psalms in Lent and Beyond: Shaping a Justice Imagination

January 17, 2023 by The staff of The Upper Room (Nashville, Tennessee)

The Psalms are an excellent place to center ourselves and to be mindful of communion with God. Even Jesus learned to pray through the Psalms and died with a Psalm on his lips. From joy and praise to rage and lament, the Psalms give expression to the entire range of human emotions, helping us honor our full selves and bring all of who we are to God.

Join us on March 18, 2023, for an online Academy Day Apart retreat where we will focus on the spiritual practices of silence and contemplation as we journey intentionally through this Lenten season. We will be guided by Gabby Cudjoe-Wilkes and Andrew Wilkes, who are the co-founding, co-lead pastors of The Double Love Experience Church in Brooklyn, New York, and authors of Psalms for Black Lives, recently published by Upper Room Books. In our time together during this retreat, Gabby and Andrew will help us engage the Psalms to create a laboratory of justice imagination. Let us shape our hope together.

The Academy for Spiritual Formation is an ecumenical movement that creates transformative space (online and in-person) for people to connect with God, self, others, and creation for the sake of the world. Learn more at Academy.UpperRoom.org
