My Fourth Day Story

December 13, 2023 by Kobus Marais

I attended Protea Emmaus Walk #125 in Gauteng, South Africa in March 2018.

Though I started my journey five years ago, today it still feels like an absolutely new beginning. My life had been tremendously impacted, especially through the Grace talks when I came to understand the bigger picture of what God, Abba Father, has in mind for humankind. I realized that long before I came into being, God was thinking about me. At that point during my Walk, I thought that my only response could be to serve and share the truth of the gospel with the church on my journey with Christ.

After my Walk, I had a rough time. Because of episodes of low blood sugar, I was unable to serve as I had intended.

Then, as I was praying for healing from Type 1 diabetes, I came across Dr. Henry Wright’s teachings on spiritual root causes of diseases, as well as a biblical and medical program, Under Eagles’ Wings by Dr. Michelle Strydom. These provided insights on the importance of establishing God's identity in me and declaring to myself what God says about me. That was when my healing started, and I was able to continue my growth in grace, especially through piety and by sharing my journey to better health with others. This experience gave me a passion for lay servants and newly ordained ministers. I tell them that they have lots of choices, but that The Walk to Emmaus is an excellent ministry for persons who want to be equipped and empowered for the work of God.

I am presently reading The Bible from a Medical Perspective: Medicine from a Biblical Perspective, as well as Healing Begins with the Sanctification of the Heart by Dr. Michelle Strydom. She works with biblical truths to help heal her patients completely, with the understanding that God want us to be healed of diseases, and God wants to prevent disease through his Word too. At this moment, I am much more energized and more effective due to God's spoken word that I have chosen to follow; all this has happened as a result of my Emmaus experience.

Since January 1, 2023, I have served as Community Spiritual Director of the Protea Emmaus Community. In my time as CSD, I have learned that all people, even in our Emmaus communities, need to experience or continue experiencing God's love. It’s interesting to notice how God sets people free during Emmaus events as they experience God’s message and his love. All sorts of healing follows.

I am writing a book about my journey of divine healing. I hope it will help people in the church who struggle to understand why, despite their many prayers, they have not been set free from disease. I believe that it is important to better understand healing as a holistic process.

As I go forward, I hope that people will continue to grow in the likeness of Christ, that preachers and ministers will continue to serve faithfully and seek opportunities to participate in offerings like The Walk to Emmaus and Kairos Prison Ministry. I also pray that more people will experience and rejoice in the holistic healing of body, mind, and spirit that results from a committed walk with God through Jesus Christ.

In closing, I will encourage us to indeed live as if we are “more than conquerors” in Christ (Romans 8:37).
