Celebrate the Marathi Edition with Us!

February 7, 2024 by Nicole Curtis

Because of the generosity of donors, 34 language editions of The Upper Room are distributed in more than 100 countries. Donor gifts empower local teams to translate, print, and distribute the daily devotional in their own language. The Upper Room is grateful for the faithfulness of our donors and for the dedication and vision of the Marathi team, which is relaunching the Marathi edition this year, making it our seventh language edition in India.

Meet Rev. Abhijeet V. Sasane, coordinator of the Marathi edition

Rev. Sasane serves as a senior ordained minister in the Methodist Church and is an influential and powerful voice for the Christian community in India. You can often find him making appearances on national TV or discussing crucial bills in parliament, advocating for justice, unity, and equality.

Rev. Sasane formerly served as the Auxiliary Secretary of the Bible Society of India, garnering expertise in translation, proofreading, printing, publishing, marketing, and fundraising. This experience, along with a background in journalism and being fluent in English, Marathi, and Hindi, makes Rev. Sasane the perfect fit as the coordinator of the Marathi edition.

More about the Marathi Edition

Besides Rev. Sasane, several more people are working part time on the edition, including 12 translators, an editor, and a graphic designer. There is great anticipation and excitement about this revival, which is now under the leadership of a new publisher, the Rev. Dr. Anilkumar Servand, presiding bishop of the Mumbai Regional Conference, Methodist Church of India. (The previous edition went out of print in 2008.) Marathi is the official language of the state of Maharashtra; Mumbai is the capital city. Eighty-four million people claim Marathi as their mother tongue, making it the third most populous language in India after Hindi and Telugu.

Celebrate with us the revival of the Marathi edition by making a gift to The Upper Room’s international editions! Your gift today will support the Marathi edition team and all of our global publishing partners. Together, we can spread the message of hope and faith to communities around the world.
