The staff of The Upper Room is saddened to hear that former staff member, beloved pastor, and program leader Rev. Robert R. Wood passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025. His loss is profoundly felt by all who had the privilege to work alongside him and witness his faithful dedication to God’s work.
Bob served as the founding International Director of The Walk to Emmaus from 1978 to 1985. He was also on the leadership team for the very first Two-Year Academy for Spiritual Formation and was a staff member working with the original Advisory Board in developing the model. While at The Upper Room, Bob was part of a core group that helped create The Upper Room Programs department, which is still providing life-changing, soul-sustaining experiences for clergy and lay leaders nearly 50 years later.
Bob was a remarkable servant of Christ, whose contributions to The Upper Room and the broader Methodist family have left an enduring legacy. His role in developing the Walk to Emmaus and co-creating the Academy for Spiritual Formation alongside Danny Morris reflects his visionary spirit and passion for nurturing spiritual growth. Bob’s deep commitment to fostering discipleship and community transformed countless lives, and his work continues to bear fruit in ministries worldwide.
Beyond his many accomplishments, Bob’s life was marked by grace, humility, and a genuine love for others. He embraced his “chosen family” with the same warmth and devotion that characterized his ministry. His presence was a beacon of hope and faith, guiding all who knew him toward a closer relationship with God.
Join us in praying that Bob’s wife, Janet, and his family find comfort in the knowledge that Bob’s life and legacy have touched so many. He was truly a gift to our community and to the world, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
