November 1: Talking to God

1. Recall a time when scripture helped to calm your fears.  What made you turn to scripture in that moment?  Did anything else help calm your fears during that time?
2. Did you memorize scripture as a child?  If so, do you remember those verses?  Do you still memorize scripture as an adult?  Why or why not?
3. Is it easy or difficult for you to trust God when you are afraid?  Describe what it means to you to lean on God’s presence in times of fear.  How does it change your situation?
4. What scriptures reassure you most of God’s presence and provision?  In what ways do those scriptures help you?
5. Do you worry about unknowns and what-ifs in your life?  How do you rest in God’s presence when worries abound?  Why does resting in God’s presence often calm our fears?

November 8: A Special Recipe

1. When have you made do with limited supplies?  What was the outcome?  What did this experience teach you about the relationship between wealth and happiness?
2. How does your attitude change when you are in a time of abundance versus a time of limited resources?  How does your relationship with God change in these times?
3. Name a person in scripture who serves as an example of rejoicing despite living without abundant resources?  What can you learn from their example?
4. When has it been a challenge for you to find joy? How does your faith help you find joy in all circumstances?
5. Do you feel that you have everything you need because you have God?  Why or why not?  How does turning to God help you remain mindful of the blessings in your life?

November 15: The Power of Acceptance

1. When have you been rejected by a group that you wanted to be a part of?  What happened and how did it make you feel?  How did you respond?
2. Describe a time when you observed a person take up for something or someone.  Why do you think it is possible for just one person to change the mindset of a group?  
3. Do you find it difficult to stand up for and accept those whom society has rejected?  Why or why not? ; What scriptures and spiritual practices help you to love and accept all people?
4. When have you been empowered by someone’s example of showing love and compassion to someone else?  Why did their example make a difference for you?
5. Who needs your acceptance and love today?  How will you demonstrate love and acceptance to that person and encourage others around you to do the same?

November 22: Praise God!

1. Does your church play praise music during the service?  Do you enjoy the music?  Why or why not?
2. Are there parts of your church’s worship service that you don’t particularly enjoy?  What helps you to appreciate all parts of worship?
3. Who in scripture do you think best demonstrates the importance of praise and worship to God?  How do you strive to follow their example?
4. Recall a time when your perspective was changed because of a sermon or a Bible story.  Why did the sermon or story make such an impression on you?  What changes did you make as a result?
5. What are your favorite ways to praise God?  How does praising God bring you joy and draw you closer to God?

November 29: The Fifth String

1. Do you ever feel like you are not important to the life of the church?  If so, why? If not, what reminds you of the valuable part you play in your church?
2. What physical object do you think best represents your faith community?  Why?  What does it teach you about your role and the role of others in your faith community?
3. Do you think that children in your faith community feel less important than the adults?  How might you remind the children around you that they are valuable and make important contributions to your church?
4. What scriptures remind you of the importance of all the members of your church?  How do these scriptures change the way you think about and participate in your community?
5. What talents and functions do you have that add to your faith community and spread the love and joy of Christ?  What talents and functions of others are you most grateful for?
