January 1: A New Beginning
1. Do you enjoy making New Year’s resolutions? Why or why not? How do you usually mark the new year?
2. Why do you think New Year’s Eve often feels so exciting? Why do you think the holiday leads many people to reflect on their life and faith journey?
3. Recall your own new beginning with Christ. What was it like? What changes did you observe in yourself as you embraced the Christian faith?
4. In what ways do you continue to grow in faith? How do you know when you are growing in faith? What spiritual practices help you keep growing?
5. How do you prioritize scripture in your daily life? What scripture verses bring you closest to God and most nourish your soul? Why?
January 8: Eyes on God
1. When have you or a loved one experienced repeated health challenges? How did you respond to those challenges? How was your faith impacted?
2. Why do you think we tend to doubt or question God in stressful and uncertain times? How are you encouraged by the ways God responds to us in such times?
3. When have you come across a scripture passage that made a big difference for you? What was the passage? Why did it mean so much to you at the time?
4. In what ways do you find peace, comfort, and strength in knowing that God is with us no matter what happens? Who or what reminds you of this truth in times when it’s easy to lose sight of it?
5. What prayers in scripture do you most relate to right now? Why? How do these prayers encourage you to focus on God?
January 15: Choosing to Serve
1. Do you have a hobby that you have lost touch with? If so, what happened? What hobbies bring you joy today? Why?
2. When have you been asked to serve in a way that made you nervous? How did you respond to the request? What was the outcome?
3. How do you currently serve God and others? In what other ways would you like to serve? How do acts of service deepen your relationships with God and others?
4. Do you have a gift that you are not using to its full capacity? How might you use your gift to serve God more fully? How might you encourage others in your faith community to embrace their own gifts and serve?
5. How are you encouraged to know that any gifts we use to serve God are meaningful? What does it mean to you that God will not judge us on what we bring to serve God?
January 22: Trusting God’s Will
1. Recall a time when you were preparing for an important and stressful appointment. What were you thinking? What role did your faith play in that moment?
2. When you desire a certain outcome in a situation, how do you strive to accept God’s will? How difficult is it to accept the idea that God’s will may be different from your own?
3. When have you received an act of compassion? What do you think led the person to act in that way? How did their act of compassion affect you?
4. How do you remain open to God’s power and will? Do you find this easy or difficult to do? What scripture passages and prayers help you remain open?
5. How do you strive to treat others with compassion? Why do you think this is important? How are you inspired to know that God can use our acts of compassion as miracles for others?
January 29: My Consolation
1. When you experience overwhelming grief, do you find yourself questioning God? Why or why not? Who or what helps you continue to trust God even in times of grief?
2. Have you ever received comfort from someone in exactly the way you needed? Describe the situation. What do you think helped that person to know exactly how to comfort you?
