I am delighted to have another one of my submissions appear in The Upper Room! I again thank God for helping me find the words, and I pray that my writing will help and encourage someone.
For me, writing a devotional is a great faith-building exercise. It helps me delve more deeply into scripture, including stories I think I already know by heart. There is always something more to ponder and a different perspective to consider.
My first attempt at writing about Jericho’s walls was not accepted for publication. However, when I re-examined and re-worked what I had written, looking at it from different angles, a different devotional emerged.
Maintaining my walls and thereby failing to trust God can be draining, keeping me from fully receiving and enjoying God’s peace. Another issue that can arise is becoming so self-absorbed that I fail to show love to others and to minister, with God’s help, to their needs. Also, when I am preoccupied with my “walls,” I can forget to appreciate and be thankful to God for the many blessings God provides.
Thank you for reading, and I pray that you have a day blessed with much joy and peace as you move closer to God.
