The Help of Community

June 10, 2026 by Mary Neumann (Georgia, USA)

On a neighborhood social networking service a few weeks ago, someone asked how to get rid of pantry moths. I replied with the steps I had taken to deal with the problem. Soon other people on the service added their advice and experiences. Some made helpful suggestions that I had not thought of. A few reassured the person that having pantry moths did not mean that she was a poor housekeeper.

The connection between my meditation and the neighbor’s plea for help showed me a related lesson. When we admit our faults to our Christian brothers and sisters and ask for prayer, they do not shame or judge us. We discover that we are not alone and that they have had similar struggles. They support us with love, advice, and encouragement (see 1 Thess. 5:11). And they can help keep us from slipping back into our old ways.

Thank you, Lord, for the fellowship of believers!
