“Which of these three . . . was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” [Jesus asked]. He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” - Luke 10:36-37 (NRSV)
Many people know the story of the good Samaritan and his compassion for the man who was in crisis. I find it interesting that the verb in today’s quoted verse is “showed.” It doesn’t say “the one who spoke about mercy” but rather the one who actively “showed him mercy.”...
To whom can I show God’s mercy today?

I join many of those who will pray for you as you seek to discern what you are called to be at this moment. May God grant you the courage to fulfill that calling. May we all open our eyes and see the misery, open our ears and hear the cries of God’s people, and, like God through the Lord Jesus Christ, be incarnate amongst them.”
