“Which of these three . . . was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” [Jesus asked]. He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” - Luke 10:36-37 (NRSV)

Many people know the story of the good Samaritan and his compassion for the man who was in crisis. I find it interesting that the verb in today’s quoted verse is “showed.” It doesn’t say “the one who spoke about mercy” but rather the one who actively “showed him mercy.”...

Heavenly Father, teach us to be good neighbors, and guide us as we show compassion to others. Amen.
