Anxious Times

April 7, 2020 by Estee (England, United Kingdom)

Oh, I must find rest in God only,
because my hope comes from him!
Only God is my rock and my salvation—
my stronghold!—I will not be shaken.
My deliverance and glory depend on God.
    God is my strong rock.
    My refuge is in God.

— Psalm 62:5-7 (CEB)

These are anxious times. With the COVID-19 virus ripping through almost every nation in the world, being a healthcare professional, I know that my role is essential to the well-being of my patients. However, my daily fears of the unknown exhaust me. The verses above were shown to me when I was wondering when will we see the light at the end of this tunnel. We have a slight expectation, that this too shall pass. However, this expectation comes not from our governments nor our limited resources but from God alone. As the psalmist proclaims, we shall have to wait and put our hope in God. The rich and the poor, the young and the old, come into hospital in like manner. Only God is our solid rock and salvation.

Ploughing on as the number of infected patients increase and personal protective equipment dwindles, I shall keep reminding myself that God is my true defense. We come to our limits much more easily than ever these days. Throwing in the towel completely now is a tempting option when it seems there is no good way to fight or defend against the virus. Whether or not we survive this crisis, our salvation and our glory is in God alone. Treading through clusters of COVID-19 cases day by day, I shall rest assured in the promise that my everlasting refuge is in God.
