Trusting God

April 28, 2020 by Mark Karpinski (North Carolina)

Cast all your anxiety on [God] because he cares for you.

— 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

“Social distancing”, “self-quarantine”, and “deep cleaning” are a few of the new phrases that have become part of our everyday conversation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While necessary to stem the spread of the virus, these measures have unfortunately also led to fear, anxiety, and hoarding. As we follow the recommendations of epidemiologists and other professionals, we must also remember that in any crisis our hope lies in our Lord Jesus and his promises to us. God has promised to “never leave us or forsake us” (Deuteronomy 31:6) and to “guide the nations of the earth” (Psalm 67:4). Jesus “comforts us in all our troubles” (2 Corinthians 1:4) while Romans 8:35 states that nothing, not even trouble and hardship, can separate us from the love of Christ. And during the Last Supper, Jesus reassured his disciples and us when he said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). I do not know what will happen during the COVID-19 pandemic. But I do know that I can trust Jesus to watch over and sustain me during any crisis I will face in my life.

Prayer: Dear Jesus. thank you for your love and care every day and in every situation. In your precious name we pray. Amen.
