More From Sam Siligato

Sam in the setting for today’s devotion

Two years ago, I submitted the devotion “A Special Place” based on Phil. 4:7. My original title was “Peace,” and the words for the devotion came about because I was seeking peace from the Lord many years ago due to circumstances in my life at that time. The setting was an old wooden bridge in the marshlands of southern New Jersey. I have visited this bridge many times over the years.

Since my submission to The Upper Room, a book I have been working on for years was finally published in December 2022. It contains 28 short stories, many of which are my life experiences, all with scriptural insights to hopefully encourage and challenge each reader. My prayer is for the Lord to send the words where they need to be to minister and bless.

On November 7, 2022, my wife, Sherry, who was a help and inspiration in the writing of my book, passed away unexpectedly. We were married for 37 years. She was the love of my life and my soulmate. I am brokenhearted, but I am grateful for all the blessings we shared and the time we had together, even though it was not long enough.

I have revisited that old wooden bridge a few times since already, seeking that peace that only the Lord can bring. I trust that the Lord will lead and guide me through this “next chapter” in my life.

In the Mar/Apr issue of The Upper Room, another devotion of mine will be published. It is based on a verse from Hebrews 13. It wasn’t speaking of my wife, but to me and many others, she was an angel! Sherry was a beautiful and talented singer. I am sure she is in the heavenly choir rejoicing with the Lord and her loved ones. I look forward to seeing her again. I pray I can be faithful to whatever calling the Lord has for me for the rest of my life. Prayers accepted and appreciated!
